  • Ignatius Literary Magazine Named 2018 Pacemaker Finalist

Congratulations to the student editors and faculty moderators of Phantasm. Honoring the nation’s best, the National Scholastic Press Association has named 28 scholastic magazines as finalists in its prestigious Pacemaker competition, including our very own Phantasm magazine. “The Pacemaker is the association’s preeminent award,” said Laura Widmer, executive director. “NSPA is honored to recognize the best of the best.”

The NSPA Pacemaker award has a rich tradition and the association started presenting the award to high school newspapers a few years after the organization was founded in 1921. Throughout the years, yearbooks, magazines, online sites and broadcast programs were added to the competition.

To select the 28 finalists, a team of judges analyzed and discussed 115 entries from 31 states. From the 28 finalists, eight literary arts and five specialty/in-depth magazines will earn Pacemaker honors. Three of the finalists were published by junior high/middle school students. The Pacemaker finalists represent the top 24 percent and the Pacemaker winners represent the top 11 percent of the entries. The magazines were published during the 2017-18 school year.
