  • Please join us in congratulating Dr. Raymond Heisler '78 on his upcoming retirement.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Raymond Heisler '78 on his upcoming retirement.

Ray Heisler, Ph.D., has been a stalwart faculty member of our Classics Department since 1990.  Ray is a man of humility, who has quietly and consistently supported students, both in the classroom and beyond its walls.  From concerts and plays to sporting events, Ray shows up for our students.  He is a near-constant presence, having attended countless events to cheer on and encourage our students. Ray has also been a mainstay on our Discipline Board throughout his years of service, caring for individual students and our broader school community in challenging moments.

Ray is most proud of the many students with whom he has worked “who went on to live decent, productive lives.”  He shared a good memory of his 1996-97 junior Latin and Greek class with me, “Those students were especially bright and interested in the material.  The highlight was when I had them translate Cicero's First Tusculan Disputation from Latin directly into Greek.  The result read like a Platonic dialogue.”

Ray is an alumni of the Class of 1978, who has helped preserve our history as our archivist.  He is a true Ignatian Educator, whose commitment to generations of students has made its mark on our history and whose impact will, no doubt, continue to have a positive effect on our future.

Ray looks forward to the freedom retirement affords, long walks, and time for more prayer.  Thank you, Ray!
