LATINX YOUTH CONFERENCE "JOURNEY TO SUCCESS"
 Saturday, March 26, 2022
Saint Ignatius College Prep
1076 W. Roosevelt Road
9:00 am-8:00 pm

We would like to invite you to our 2nd Latinx Youth Conference on Saturday, March 26, 2022. Come connect with Latinx students from other Chicago-area Catholic high schools around the theme: "Journey to Success".

Our team of student leaders have been preparing this conference for the past year and we would love you to join us to hear stories of success from Keynote Speakers, participate in discussions and workshops, and enjoy food and cultural entertainment.  Latinx students from various private Catholic high schools in the Chicagoland area will have the opportunity to develop their leadership skills, explore their identity, and share the appreciation of their culture together while networking with other students. Participants will have the opportunity to attend workshops to learn new perspectives or ideas about Latinx culture, and learn strategies to aid in their success as they continue to move through high school and on to higher education and beyond.

Keynote speakers include Judge Sonia Antolec '01 from the Illinois Court of Claims and Dr. Jonathan Moreira '00, Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology/Oncology at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine.

Entertainment will be provided by Mariachi La Barca, as well as a folkloric dance performance by the Collaborative Institute of Cultural Arts. Lunch, dinner, and snacks will be provided and the evening will end with a dance social.

The Holiday Drive was done in partnership with Ald. Byron Sigcho-Lopez and local nonprofit organizations to give clothing and essentials for seniors and families in need in the Pilsen Community.
On Thursday, November 12, 2020, the San Ignacio Society held their first program in their Speaker Series. The topic was “Current Themes in the National Discussion on Immigration Policy and Politics.” Our panel of experts were Ruth Lopez-McCarthy ’99, an Immigration Attorney, Juan Manuel Pedroza ’99, Associate Professor of Political Science at University of California, Santa Cruz , Ricardo Ramirez, Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Notre Dame, Rebecca Shi, Executive Director at American Business Immigration Coalition, co-hosted by San Ignacio Programming Chair, Patricia Avila Rodriguez ’98 and moderated by San Ignacio Membership Co-Chair Simón Weffer ’91, Associate Professor of Sociology and Latino and Latin American Studies at Northern Illinois University. There were over 50 attendees, including members of club ALAS. They talked about what changes may come from a new administration and how this recent campaign brought a new focus on immigration and created a strong coming together of the Latinx Community.
They explained why reframing immigration offenses and investing in Community Organizations were critical and that everyone should get involved. Other essential information was about the Legal Protection Agencies and how being educated about Immigration policies is very useful. A final message to tie everything together: Please always remember to Vote.
