  • Michael K. Muldoon '78 & John J. Muldoon, III '76

Alumni Award for Excellence in Law
John J. Muldoon, III ′76 spent the first 11 years of his career as an Assistant State’s Attorney for Cook County, Illinois, where he tried many high-profile cases, including several death penalty cases.

In 1995 he left the State’s Attorneys’ Office to become general counsel for the Rosenthal Collins Group, which included a futures commission merchant (FCM), securities broker-dealer, a proprietary trading company and other related businesses. During that time, he co-chaired a coalition of FCM’s and co-wrote a brief filed in the US Supreme Court.

In 2001, John and Michael formed Muldoon & Muldoon, LLC. While Michael concentrates his practice representing victims and family members of victims of personal injury and wrongful death, John represents victims of financial fraud, employment discrimination and those accused of whitecollar crime and non-violent felonies. John has tried 57 jury trials to verdict, including civil rights cases against Walgreen Co. and U.S. Steel.

John earned his Juris Doctor from Chicago Kent College of Law and holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Notre Dame, and once he finishes his thesis, he will be a degree candidate from Chicago-Kent’s Masters in Financial Law program.

John is also very active in virtually all activities of his parish, St. Andrew, when he is not skating with his beer-league hockey team.

John and his wife Laura live on the North Side with their daughters Maddie and Caitlin.

Michael K. Muldoon ′78 has been representing victims and family members of victims of personal injury and wrongful death for over 35 years. While his home base has always been Cook County, he has represented clients in all the collar counties and other counties both in and out of Illinois. Michael has shown the same dedication and professionalism to his clients that have simple automobile cases as he does to his clients that have complex cases that have resulted in multi-million-dollar jury verdicts. He is admitted to practice in the State of Illinois and the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois. Michael has authored or co-authored chapters in books published by the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education and has lectured at seminars sponsored by the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, the Chicago Bar Association, Lorman Education Services and other legal organizations. He has been a part of several professional organizations, including the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association and the Illinois State Bar Association, and currently serves on the ISBA Judicial Evaluation Committee as well as the ISBA General Practice, Solo and Small Firm Committee. Michael is also active in charitable and religious organizations, as well as volunteering as a boys basketball coach at St. Cletus grade school in La Grange since 2004. Michael had been with Corboy & Demetrio P.C. for ten years before joining with his brother John to form Muldoon & Muldoon, LLC in 2001. He continues to concentrate on representing victims of personal injury and wrongful death. Michael earned his Juris Doctor from the Chicago Kent College of Law and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Notre Dame. Michael and his wife Lisa are proud parents of Kirby ’15 and Cailey Rose
